Album Info:The Staten Island Railway, operated by New York City Transit runs 14 miles (23.53 km) between the St. George Ferry Terminal and Tottenville at the southern end of the island, which is the southernmostpoint in NY State. Service is heavy rail-style with R44 cars built in 1972-73, with fares collected only at St. George (service between all other stations is free). There were two branches of the Staten Island Railway in addition to the current main line: the South Shore, abandoned 1953 and the North Shore, which last saw freight service in 1990 but is currently being restored (2007). The Staten Island Railway was a former Baltimore & Ohio line, taken over by the New York MTA in 1971.
