Description:
AT&SF RSD5 2151 at La Junta, Colorado on August 17, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in June 1953 (c/n 80598) as 2151 (2nd) it was retired and traded to EMD on a SD45 order September 22, 1969. The AT&SF rostered both RSD4's (10 units) and RSD5's (53 units), the mechanical difference being a larger main generator (GE model GT 566 on the RSD5). The external spotting difference is the presence of the intercooler pipes placed above the air tanks on the RSD5. The RSD5 could be set up to have the long hood or the short hood as the forward end, in this case, the short hood is front.
