Description:  Northbound hopper train at MP 99 on the DeSoto sub near Glover, MO. This is likely an empty ore train heading to either Pilot Knob or Pea Ridge to reload. MP 6001 was one of just a handful of Mopac units to have a Mars light in the nose (and dynamic brakes). Built to BN specs for unit coal train pool service, she was later UP 3901, GATX 901. Description:  FORT WORTH TX May 27 1985 -- Missouri Pacific SD40-2 6009 bangs over the diamonds at Tower 55. EMD built the 6009 (s/n 766005-5) as MP 3225 in September 1976. On June 6 1986 it became UP 3909 and on Jan 28 2003 became WP 3909 to clear the 3900 series for the new SD70Ms. It was retired on Jan 30 2002. Description:  Between 1976 and 1980 the Missouri Pacific purchased 74 SD40-2's for use on unit coal trains. The obvious difference from the railroad's other SD40-2's was the dynamic brake housing, but the first 20 units - such as this one - were also equipped with a nose-mounted oscillating light so as to be compatible with D&RGW power. These 20 units were delivered as the 3216-3235, and then renumbered 6000-6019 in May 1978, while the other 54 coal units were delivered new as the 6020-6073. All of them became Union Pacific 3900-3973.
