PRR 8906, AS-16M, #2 of 2, 1960
Yard Power. Here is the second of two successive original photos that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 27 August 1960. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8906, an AS-16M road switcher built by the American Locomotive Company in April of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in October of 1967 after just 16 years of service. The crew is moving cars adjacent to Snyder's Scrap Yard. This stretch of track is actually the original right-of-way for the Allegheny Portage Railroad.
